A Return to Cleveland
It’s that time of year again, when everything outside the window turns white and chilly and everyone’s electric bill veers sharply up to accommodate all those extra twinkling lights. It’s also a time of screaming kids, good smelling kitchens and family gatherings one after another. In other words, it’s the end of the year holidays. And for me, that often means a return to my old stomping grounds of Ohio–and Columbus and Cleveland in particular.
Right now it’s a blustery Cleveland suburban day, with the wind raging the snow into masterful examples of snow and ice terraforming. By the time I shoveled the driveway and steps and sidewalk, they were all covered with a fine patina of white again. Although the snow is not exceptionally wet or heavy–it’s actually rather powdery–it has been snowing pretty steady for the past few days, and I would guess by this point we have at least 6″ of snowfall, and it is still snowing at a steady pace.
The last two days (New Years Eve and day) were a whirlwind of cooking and tasty food. If you don’t believe me, take a look at these images from the party.
There is a lot more to tell, but for now I’ll just say it is the holidays and everything is all right. Before I go, I’ll leave you with one heart-warming holiday story. We were having dinner, and three of the younger boys were buys playing Minecraft on the X-Box. I had walked in to check on them and overheard them talking about xmas gifts they each got. Then one of the boys asked if they thought it was better to give or receive gifts? Simultaneously all three boys answered “to give.” Maybe there is still hope for the future.
Until next time…merry yule!
