Christian Nationalism, Anti-Globalism, and the 2024 Elections
In recent years, the fusion of Christian nationalism, anti-globalism, and right-wing authoritarianism has emerged as a critical influence on elections around the globe. In this talk, Denison University Visiting Asst. Professor of International Studies Dr. Chris Crews explores how Christian nationalism, anti-globalism, and right-wing authoritarianism have become growing threats to multicultural politics and democracy. His talk examines how these trends are fueling growing hostility towards immigrants and LGBTQ+ communities, and how culture war politics are impacting public education and support for democracy in the US and globally. The talk also explores recent research and scholarship on “Christian Nationalism” as well as examples of Christian Nationalist discourse in the public sphere today.
The talk was recorded on Monday Oct. 28th, 2024 at Denison University in Ohio, USA. This public talk was hosted by the International Studies program and co-sponsored by the Department of Religion, Department of Education, Women’s & Gender Studies, and Black Studies.
