Religion, Ethics, and Martin Luther King’s Racial Justice Legacy – Jan 18, 2021
In my Religion, Ethics, and Ecology class this week we are looking at the role of religion and ethics in struggles for social and racial justice, with a focus on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And since today is also MLK Day in the US, I wanted to bring in lessons from the past Civil Rights Movement to help us think about important ethical questions today in 2021.
As I note in my lecture below, available as a video or podcast, much of what Dr. King wrote about issue of racial injustice are sadly still applicable decades later, as the recent white supremacist insurrection on Jan 6, 2021 in Washington D.C. made clear for everyone.
So in memory of Dr. King and his legacy, here is my little contribution.
You can also listen to this in a slightly edited form on my End of the World podcast below. I’m excited that this turned out to be my first new podcast show for season 2 in 2021!
